10 things about me

There is always a first time for everything. I have never been keen to sharing a lot about me other than expressing my feelings, really.

There is more to a person than just feelings or hobbies, which is why I decided to make this post about things that make me who I am as a person.

Here they are:

  1. My childhood nickname was Tote or Tete, which you can imagine where the name of my blog came from. It all comes down to a game of words because I could not pronounce my middle name properly when I was a kid. So that’s how my family would call me- Tote.
  2. My star sign is Sagittarius. According to astrology.com “Sagittarius women in love are passionate, energetic, and usually down for pretty much anything.” No need to say more, right?
  3. My favorite color is Purple. It always has been. I remember dressing up my barbies and dolls with purple or fuchsia dresses. I have a purple winter coat and a purple backpack. Sometimes I’ve dreamed about dying my hair purple. Crazy.
  4. My first thought when I wake up in the morning is I need coffee and what am I going to have for breakfast? After making my bed and leaving my room in the morning I go straight to the kitchen, have a glass of water and open the fridge to figure out what to make for breakfast. It honestly is like that everyday. Eggs is always the answer.
  5. My favorite meal/snack are nachos and pizza. I can definitely have nachos every day for lunch or dinner and I would not care. Pizza – I can eat one by myself. I wish I could do it everyday. Might just order one after writing this.
  6. Favorite type of food is breakfast food. It doesn’t matter what time it is I am eating breakfast food. Veggie Omelette, pancakes and Avocado Toast are my go-to options.
  7. My favorite ice cream flavor is either Vanilla or cookies & cream. I don’t have any other ice cream flavors. Even if there’s a thousand more I will always choose those. I know, pretty boring, right?
  8. I’m scared of thunder and snakes. I really am. Whenever there’s thunder I get really anxious and start praying to which ever God is up there. Snakes – I have nightmares with them and whenever that happens I wake up and feel tingles all over my body. THE WORST.
  9. I hate the smell of feet. I really can’t stand it on other people or even on myself.
  10. My favorite movie of all time is Harry Potter, always. All of them. I have seen all of them multiple times and will never get tired of them. I have to admit that I most likely know the dialog to all of or most of them.

Of course there is so much more to me than these 10 facts. But those will just give you an idea.

If you read this, comment with one thing you hate the most.

Tote.

Uncertainty, Frustration, Tiredness

Those words can just be a summary of my time at home. Don’t get me wrong, I like being at home and enjoy time on my own.

But anxiety has kicked in.

There’s only so many things I can do at home and the things that excited me at the beginning don’t seem to be helping me anymore. It really is a strange feeling.

You see, I love writing. I love taking the words out of my head and make them into paragraphs or stories. However, this is not what is happening anymore. The words are stuck in my head, and it’s heavy. Heavy full of words that are trying to make it into one of these paragraphs.

But you know what the good thing is about all this? Trying to stay positive and to come out stronger than before. I am acknowledging the issue and I am trying to overcome it on my own.

And what is the issue? You ask. Well, the issue is I am not writing. And not because I don’t have the time, because that’s not true, but because I have been procrastinating and to tell you the truth, I have been lazy. And no, it is not an excuse but just the fact that I acknowledge it is a start, don’t you think?

My mind is full of ideas and projects that I want to work on and I just don’t understand why none of them are happening. Maybe that’s where the issue starts? Trying to do multiple things at once and completing none of them? is that why I feel frustrated and tired? It is definitely something to think about.

Today is the day to start something. It is Monday, the beginning of a new month and the perfect time to start. And the only reason why I am writing this is to have it as a backup when I feel down again. I will remember that post I wrote on June 1st talking about new beginnings and this will be my go-to post when I am feeling lazy, tired or with a big head full of words.

May 13 – Unconditional love

I would like to believe that people who are close to me feel unconditional love towards me. Because I do. I do feel love for those who are close to me. And if you are reading this, then you are probably on that list.

Having the opportunity and blessing to be loved by somebody is very unique. Sometimes we don’t really appreciate the people that we surround ourselves with, however, if you are lucky enough to be texting/calling that specific person every day, let me tell you, my friend, you love them.

Like I mentioned, in my previous post, there are different kinds of love, and you can definitely love different people in different ways, but hey, at the end of the day is unconditional love. I don’t even know how to describe it. You just know when you love somebody.

Mothers love their kids, and fathers love their kids too. And I’m not just talking biologically. You can have a mother figure in your life who isn’t really your biological mother, and the same happens with father figures. This proves my point that loving someone doesn’t necessarily mean having a biological tight to them.

We have friends and coworkers who are considered family because of the fact that sometimes we spend long hours with them. Even though we still spend time with our biological family; parents, brothers/sisters, aunts/uncles, etc. As adults have the ability and the option to create and choose our own families and love them unconditionally.

May 11 – Love

I don’t think there’s a definition of love that fits everyone.

We have felt love and still feel love every day of our lives, however, that feeling for everyone is different. We love our friends, family, parents, pets, etc.. and every person’s love is and feels different. For example, you don’t love your pet the same way you love your parents, right?

I don’t think there isn’t just one type of love, but what I do believe is that as human beings we are very lucky to feel love, to be loved, and to love somebody or something. There are many definitions of Love in the dictionary. Try searching it up. Even I am having a hard time trying to figure out what to write about love.

Love is such a unique and personal feeling that even if I describe to you what I feel when I feel love, I’m sure it will be completely different than what you feel.

I love movies, writing, reading, playing, and listening to music, cooking, eating.

I love my family, friends, coworkers.

I love running distance…more like, jogging.

I think that what we love and how we love is what defines us as individuals.

What is love for you? What are the things that you love the most?

May 9 – Landscape

Do you see the forest first, or the trees?

I see buildings, cars, and trees, in that order. It is night time at the moment, so I can also see the city lights and it is past 9 p.m on a Saturday night.

On a usual Saturday night, I would sit on my balcony and listen to the music that’s played in the plaza downstairs. But, because of COVID-19, that is not happening anymore. There isn’t any more music or people walking around the plaza. It has gotten really lonely.

Gazing out my window, I can also see a clear night sky with no stars. Light pollution, right? The only good thing about light pollution is that it somehow reflects on the number of people that live in this city, and the many that are staying at home on a Saturday night. We can only thank quarantine for that. I see a traffic light with a couple of cars waiting for the light to change. Aren’t these people supposed to be at home? Are they front-line workers? I wonder…

I see a bus that didn’t stop, I guess nobody was at the bus stop and the light had already changed to green. Coffee shops and restaurants are all closed. How come there is a parking enforcement vehicle parked in the corner? There shouldn’t be any cars parked in the plaza for them to give tickets too.  Very strange…

And with my gaze back indoors, I look at my computer screen realizing I’ve already written too much and my phone is blinking with notifications. I should probably check it. Funny enough, one of the notifications is from Netflix advising on what I should watch tonight.

Looking at the couch now…Thank you, Netflix, for understanding my moods.

May 8 – Success

Tell us about a time where everything you’d hoped would happen actually did.

There aren’t that many successful moments in our lifetime, sometimes we don’t even remember them. We do remember, however, the successful and beautiful moments that do happen.

Success to me means accomplishing or completing a goal that we set for ourselves. For example, finish reading a book, learning and cooking a recipe, and many more. You should know your own goals.

During this quarantine, I have been successful many times, or so I think.

One of my goals this year was to get back to writing and guess what? I did and I am still doing it. I have to thank COVID-19 for that. I also got back to playing the guitar, which was something I really wanted to do for the longest time but never really cared for it. Somehow Netflix always got in the way. Excuses, excuses...

Also, I didn’t think I was going to be exercising while being stuck at home. But hey, somehow I always make the time for it, and even if it is for 15 minutes, I wake my heartbeat up and get the blood flowing. Everyone should try it, trust me – it will change your day completely!

I guess it hasn’t been that bad being stuck at home after all …

Anyone else been successful at completing personal goals during quarantine?

May 5 – The Glass

Is the glass half-full, or half-empty?

Hold on, which glass?

I’m a glass-half-full kind of person, to be honest.

There is always the other side of things- if you believe good things will come, then you are always looking at an opportunity or a failure as some type of growth. Yes, bad things happen to me too, but I turn them around and see them as a lesson, or as knowledge.

Now, sometimes I can be a glass-half-empty kind of girl too. Even though I think it mostly depends on the situation. I’ve noticed is usually for temporary actions like driving, for example. I hate traffic, and I live in Toronto, I know…

On that note, Coronavirus. It appeared in the world for us to take a break and focus on what is really essential and important in our lives. Yes, it is a pandemic, and there are people dying, but the world didn’t end because you haven’t gone to the salon to do your nails, right? You are at home with your family, or alone in a condo, but there is food in the fridge, and you are healthy. This is going to be over soon. Yes, the sooner the better, but also we want to make sure that once we go out there we won’t get sick. I am in for another month, but three? That’s when I’ll start looking at things differently.

Aside from that, glass-half-full all the way!!

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Day 30 – Grateful

I can’t believe I made it to Day 30 of daily writing and posting. Time went by so fast, it seemed like an eternity when it all began on April 1st with the word Joke.

I am grateful for the month of April – for being the month where I got back to writing – for both my hands and fingers, which are the ones that allow me to type and text.

I am grateful for my laptop and the desk below it. The lamp and my eyes that give me light and allow me to see and decipher what I am writing.

Grateful for having a roof over my head, with working heater for when it’s cold and A/C for when it’s hot, and the electricity to make them work.

Grateful for having access to the Internet and to be able to stay in touch with loved ones.

Grateful for having a job and to be able to pay my bills.

Last, but not least,

Grateful to be healthy, to be alive, and to be able to feel things. To feel love, sad, depressed, anxious, hungry… Those are reminders that we are still alive.

I guess there is a reason why I did not make this list yesterday. It had to be saved for today.

And with April gone, May comes the fun. With longer days, and trees in bloom.

We are yet, still at home…

Day 29 – List

Here is a list of my TOP 10 favorite beers. They are not in any specific order, I’m just writing as they come to mind.

beer

  1. Paulaner (German)
  2. Erdinger (German)
  3. Polar Negra (Venezuela)
  4. Cerveza Zulia (Venezuela)
  5. Barking Squirrel (Canadian)
  6. Guinness – Blonde (American)
  7. Stella Artois (Belgian)
  8. Creemore (Canadian)
  9. Spaten – Munchen (German)
  10. Efes (Turkish)

You are welcome!

Day 28 – Focus

I felt really focused when going on my run this afternoon.

I was concentrated on finishing my run without stopping that I was pacing myself in a way that I didn’t want to stop, even at the traffic lights.

For me, especially, I get really focused when I am exercising or doing some type of work out. It is really hard for me to focus when I am doing something else, even writing. Right now,  I am writing and have the TV on in the background, and answering my phone when I get notifications.

I wonder why that is? When I’m working out I select playlists that I don’t know, because I don’t want to be singing along or trying to understand lyrics while I’m on the treadmill or even doing squats. It might be because I want to do it properly? In running, for example, you have to keep a consistent pace in order to complete the set time. If you run too fast or too slow, you either won’t get to your destination on time, or you might be get too tired too quickly. It really does take a lot of focus and concentration.

Any runners here?

I could be wrong, but that’s how I felt this afternoon, and the first thing I thought of when I saw the word Focus.
